Teen Depression Problem Solution Essay - 1542 Words
Have you ever felt completely and totally worthless? Like nothing you can do could ever right the wrongs that have been done? Like youââ¬â¢re not good at anything you do? Like everybody hates you? Like youââ¬â¢re completely alone? The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about 121 million people worldwide have felt these emotions before due to some form of depression; however, less than 25 percent have access to effective treatment [source: WHO]. Even though many people donââ¬â¢t realize it, there is an abhorrent problem with depression among teens in the United States. In fact, ââ¬Å"11% of adolescents have a depressive disorder by age 18,â⬠according to the National Institute of Mental Healthââ¬â¢s website. Maybe if teens were less stressed with homework and such, they could do more things they enjoy, and maybe theyââ¬â¢d be less depressed. A second way to help prevent and/ or cure this crippling disease is to ensure people get a proper nightââ¬â¢s sleep. Donââ¬â¢t you love the feeling after a long, relaxing, refreshing nightââ¬â¢s sleep? You might be thinking, ââ¬Å"Sure, but how does that help with depression?â⬠Well, Chris Iliades, MD says that, ââ¬Å"Teens whose parents set a 10 p.m bedtime (and enforce it) are 25% less likely to experience teenage depressionâ⬠¦ according to a study of data from 15,000 adolescents.â⬠The potential benefits of this solution could be huge; being able to cure the crushing effects of depression by sleeping seems like a simple and easy thing to do, yet how simple isShow MoreRelatedTeen Lovepression: Teenage Love Depression1657 Words à |à 7 Pages(wc) Teen Lovepression Teenage Love Depression Have you ever felt so in love with someone that you never want to lose sight of him or her?
